Local medics give hospice a £1,705 boost

Published on Jul 25, 2019

Two teams of North Lincolnshire medics who took on a charity cricket challenge have given Lindsey Lodge Hospice a £1,705 boost.

A team of doctors from Scunthorpe Hospital, which is run by Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust (NLaG), met a rival team of North Lincolnshire GPs at a Cricket Family Fun Day, in aid of Lindsey Lodge, at Heslam Park on Sunday 21 July.

Consultant Acute Care Physician Dr Vijaykumar Singh, who helped organise the event with colleagues Dr Anwer Qureshi, Dr Khawar Naeem and Dr Satpal Shekhawat, said: “In the spirit of working more closely with our health partners, we organised this event, which truly was a fun day out for all of the family, with some entertaining cricket.”

He added: “It was a closely fought game, but in the end the GPs were the winners, so congratulations to them. It was great to see so many colleagues from the hospital and general practice, along with their families and friends and the local community getting together to raise funds for Lindsey Lodge Hospice, which is such an important local charity and touches the lives of so many of our friends, families and patients.”

Lindsey Lodge Hospice Chief Executive Karen Griffiths said: “This is a fantastic amount of money raised, and we’ve had great feedback from the event, so on behalf of the Hospice I would express our sincere thanks to everyone involved for choosing to support Lindsey Lodge!”

Dr Kate Wood, Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust Medical Director, said: “It was a wonderful afternoon of cricket and camaraderie between some of our hospital doctors and GP colleagues. It was a great way of building relationships, as well as raising money for a worthy cause.”

Dr Singh said: “All of the organisers would like to say thank you to the staff at Heslam Park and the Lindsey Lodge team for helping us to organise the event, as well as everyone who came along to support us and contributed to making it such a successful day!”
